King Henry IV of France
Chateau de Fontainebleau
4 LYRES!

"Cosette is a twenty eight year old beauty who not only grew up with the hero (Francois) but fell
totally in love with him. When he left she had to fend for not only herself, their baby Aimee, and her
baby sister. They ended up in an Abbot and Cosette was discovered by Vivienne le Brun and turned
into a courtesan. Becoming a glorified prostitute might not have been what she wanted to become
but she certainly wasn’t about to let her dependants suffer or starve if she could help it. So
swallowing her pride and stiffening her spine, Cosette set out to make the best of her life while
secretly stashing money aside in order to get out from under Vivienne’s control.

Francois is a strong man whose past decisions have left him both haunted and stronger. Forced to
leave Cosette by his father, Francois ends up struggling to survive on some God-forsaken island.
Years later Francois is surprised to run into Cosette, and even more shocked to learn that she’s a
courtesan and is in fact the kings mistress.

Torn apart and then ultimately brought back together, this couple embarks on a journey to not only
understand what happened that caused them to split in the first place, but to deal with the fact that
now she’s in the oldest profession and he’s married to someone else. Add to that the fact that
someone is out to kill the king and they have to protect him at all costs. As well as, the fact that they
both have secrets that they’re trying to protect! All this leaves the reader so deeply enmeshed in the
book that they don’t even realize the time.

I totally love the idea of a romance with a women whose reputation isn’t the pure and above reproach
one that we’ve come to expect! Ms. Hatfield did a fantastic job of weaving their (Cosette & Francois’)
story. There were times while reading the story that I was laughing out loud! There were other times
that my heart was breaking for this couple yet I was always rooting for them. To say that the sex was
steamy would be putting it mildly too. I could very easily imagine this book on bookstore shelves!"

5 Hearts!

"Cosette has one option left to her -- she must catch King Henry’s eye. She must seduce him and
then become his new mistress or she stands to lose everyone important to her. What she never
expected was to see her betrothed. The man she believed had died ten years ago at sea. The man
whose disappearance ultimately put her in the position she's in today.

Francois has traveled to see the king for one reason only, to inform him of a possible plot against
him. But when he sees the woman he has loved for the past ten years, his betrothed that he was
forced to leave behind, his plans change. When he begins to believe she could be involved in the
plot to bring down the king, he has to decide to turn her in or save her at any cost. Can two lost
souls be reunited after so long? Or has time and circumstance forced them apart forever?

Meagan Hatfield has written an exciting tale of lost love, secrets, and devious plots. Cosette and
Francois were such well-written characters. The love-hate relationship between these two wonderful
people, along with the fiery passion that burns up the pages, is all consuming. I was unable to put
this one down. Although at times I found the situations the characters had to withstand a little
distressing, I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an exciting, sexually charged
romance because this has to be one of the best I have read. Hats off to this great author. I look
forward to reading more of her stories in the future."

4 Hearts!

As a reviewer and reader I just adore historicals, and now that I’ve had a taste of what Meagan Hatfield can do, I’
ve just fallen in love with her book The Marquis and The Mistress.

Francois Gudren had a duty to the king, his body was for another woman, but his heart would always belong to
Cosette de Montmorency. Ten years had passed and he still wore her ring around his neck. When he discovers
a disturbing parchment aboard the ship he has just raided, he must travel to see King Henry in Fontainebleau to
let him know that someone is plotting against him. When he arrives a shocking sight he will behold, the girl he
left behind ten years ago is now the saucy woman standing before him… the new royal mistress.

Cosette has trained for this very moment and with the arrival of her lost love Francois everything she has
worked so hard for may just be thrown out the window. She must do everything in her power to bewitch the king
with all the skill and beauty that she possesses or things can go VERY wrong for her. When her feelings of love
and lust push her over the edge, she must make a choice… and then what about her hidden secrets? Albeit
she’s not the only one with secrets…

I loved The Marquis and The Mistress by Meagan Hatfield, historials are just so beautiful. The characters and
story line were so detailed you couldn’t help but get pulled in to this love story gone awry and then back again.
It was just magnificent at how emotionally attached I got to Francois and Cosette no matter how vexed they were
at each other or how much they were still in love. There were times I was frustrated, enamored, and then yes, I
admit a few tears fell from my eyes. This genre suits Ms. Hatfield to a T, I’ll be on the lookout for her other works
in the very near future I’m sure!
